FAQ

Where is this coffee from?
From our farm in Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico!

How can I brew this coffee?
It is a very easy-to-drink coffee we love making it on a French press and on the Chemex, but can also get great flavors in a regular filter machine or coffee maker.

Can I get more?
Absolutely! You can always subscribe and get it delivered to you every week, or month. You don’t have to think about it anymore, it will just appear at your door step (or mailbox!).

Does the coffee come as whole beans or ground?
We offer two products:
Whole beans – to preserve maximum freshness. We recommend grinding them just before you brew it.
Coffee on the go – our single-serve option ground specialty coffee, ready to brew. It delivers a great cup of coffee, any place you are.
Both products are nitrogen-flushed packaged to guarantee freshness.

What makes Chula Cafe coffee so special?
We are a 150-year family tradition of coffee producers. We believe our responsibility lies with the soil where we grow our coffee plants, the families who help us harvest them, and our customers who enjoy the result of our efforts. We continue to make this our way of life—with respect, love, and transparency.

Where do you roast the beans?
We roast our coffee right here in San Francisco, close to our Bay Area customers. This allows us to control quality, roast profiles, and deliver maximum freshness. We are a proud Bay Area coffee roaster focused on freshness and quality.

How can I store my beans?
Keep them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place (not the fridge). Our bags are resealable and lined to keep your beans fresh for weeks.

Can I find Chula Cafe in the Bay Area?
Yes! You can now find us in San Francisco at Rainbow Grocery Store, Chiotras (Potrero), and Mainstay (Dogpatch); and in Oakland at Howden Market. We’re expanding soon—follow us on Instagram @chulacafe for updates.

How does the subscription work? Can I cancel anytime?
Life happens, and we’re flexible. You can pause, skip a shipment, or cancel anytime directly from your account—no commitment or hidden fees. You are 100% in control. Just remember there is a 5% discount in subscriptions.

Will I be charged automatically?
Your card will be charged each time your coffee is shipped. Unless we hear otherwise from you, we’ll do our best to ensure you have a great experience and are happy to make changes or adjustments to your order.

Can I change the delivery frequency or quantity?
Totally. You can update your delivery schedule, quantity, or even the coffee variety from your account at any time.

Is there a discount for subscribing?
Yes! Subscribers receive 5% off every bag— your coffee will never be sold out! Plus, enjoy early access to limited-release beans and merch.

Do you offer decaf coffee?
We offer something even more unique! The Gentle, a very rare naturally low-caffeine varietal grown on our farm. It’s perfect for light caffeine drinkers or anyone looking for a mellow, smooth cup of natural low-caffeine coffee.

Do you offer gift options?
Yes! Our coffee makes a great gift. Just mark it as a gift at checkout and add a personalized note. Perfect for birthdays, holidays, or “just because".

Can I gift a subscription to someone else?
Yes, coffee is the gift that keeps on brewing. You can send a prepaid gift subscription for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months and include a personalized message.

What is your refund policy?
We always want you to be satisfied with your cup of coffee. However, due to the perishable nature of coffee, we’re unable to accept returns. If this coffee isn’t bringing a big smile to your face, please contact us within 30 days of your order date for a replacement bag—we will try to make it better for you.

How do you support local communities?
We reinvest profits into our farm and the surrounding community—supporting fair wages, education, and sustainable farming initiatives for Mexican families who grow and harvest the beans.

Is your coffee sustainably sourced?
Yes, absolutely. All of our coffee is ethically and sustainably sourced through direct trade from our family farm in Tapachula, Chiapas in Mexico. Our approach supports the land, the ecosystem, and the Mexican families who cultivate and harvest each bean. From farm to roast, we’re committed to preserving coffee-growing traditions and protecting the environment.
